Brain Health - Easy but Powerful Morning Hack!

Sometimes we don't know what we don't know! In this case, ignorance is NOT bliss!


Are you unintentionally doing this common mistake each morning that is negatively impacting your brain? Keep reading to find out!


As I learn more about brain health, I come across some information that is so compelling, it inspires me to change my habits. This is one of those times.


First, a quick view of your different brain electrical frequencies, commonly called "brainwaves."


When you wake up in the morning, your brain naturally transitions from Delta (sleep) to Theta and Alpha (relaxed, flow state, reflection), which is one of the most desirable brain states to be in - Alpha/Theta is the state meditators strive to achieve!


THE BAD NEWS

The mistake most people make in the morning is that they look at their phones right when they wake up, forcing their brain to skip and completely miss out on the Alpha/Theta state. It's actually quite jarring for the brain and studies show it primes the brain for distraction for the rest of the day. It can even trigger the brain's stress response if you view things that are negative and/or start to feel overwhelmed by all your to-do's for the day.


THE GOOD NEWS!

Knowledge is power, and better yet - knowledge + action = super power! Now that you know how harmful it is to your brain and body to look at your phone right when you wake up, make a new habit and commit to not look at your phone for at least 30 minutes after you wake up. Notice the positive impact it has on your day - notice that you will feel more calm and focused!


BONUS PONTS!

Because the Alpha/Theta state is when your brain is in relaxed, flow, and reflection state, this is the best time to journal or do a brain dump!


You brain is actually more persuasive during this state as well, so listening to or saying affirmations aloud can help rewire your brain in a positive way!


I find that if I start to journal, that my thoughts flow quickly and easily! It's easier to recall things to add to my to-do list, and I don't feel overwhelmed because I have a sense of control and I feel more organized - ready to take on the day!


MAKE THE CHANGE!

Friends, starting is the hardest part! Make it easier on yourself by keeping your phone in another room overnight, and get the extra health benefit of not being exposed to your phone's EMFs throughout the night!


When you wake, reach for a piece of paper and a pen and just let your brain unload - it's an opportunity for your brain to declutter!
